The Legend of OneRythym

Yes I know, rhythm is spelled wrong. Years ago, when I made my first real automobile purchase, I decided to get one of those nifty “vanity plates.” Virginia is loaded with those custom plates, nearly every driver has them. A drummer since age ten, dablling in other instruments, songwriting and theroy, I really wanted a plate to sum up my life and personality. One rhythm, to me, is about the single universal rhythm. It is how music and art connects each of us. We are all joined by the same common bond, one rhythm. That wouldn’t fit on a auto plate. 1rhythm was taken. 1rythym was not taken, and I decided it looked cooler, because of the two Y’s. Kind of like in the 80’s when musicians had fake stage names that were to look cool: Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, Stixx, Wyld Stallyons.

Later I signed up for an instant messenger name, onerythym. After that I used that name for countless websites. Don’t you hate it when you go to sign up for a website and the name you are attached to is taken? Its never an issue when the name is unique. I’ve never been a fan of jsut adding random numbers to the end of the name. Rhythm37863 just doesn’t have the same zing to it.

So here we are 2008, same badly spelled name, still kicking around the internet. You usually find me on tech gadget sites, mac/apple sites, podcasting, design, and all the yummy goodness of the web. Usually you can find me on whatever new social network is out… Its tough being an “early adopter.”
250994005_l.jpgUp until the summer of 2007 I lived in Virginia. Went to school with jels in a very small town in central Va. In high school I did the marching band and orchestra band and every other kind of band there was. Around my junior year or so, I became the lead percussionist. After graduation I taught percussion at my old high school to help my mentor Ted Richardson. He could concentrate on the rest of the students, and I would work with the drummers and percussionists.

While I attended school, I met Travis Wiseman, with whom I later started five or more bands. While teaching percussion, I was introduced to more interesting people like James Shelton and Patrick Cleveland. James Shelton introduced me to Gospel music, and I performed in his band “The New Sensations” for about 5 years. Patrick Cleveland fronted a few bands most notably “Crashryde” with me and Travis Wiseman. In 2007, I leave my friends and musical comrades in Virginia. Moved here to West Tennesse, where my father is from.

Over the years, me and jels became close buddies. We both like video games and ridiculous things like legos. jels and I still like the same stupid things and laugh about the same ridiculous movies, songs and websites. We’ve made some interesting songs, most recently “Girls Like Babies.”

Check the Music page to hear about Crashryde, Girls Like Babies, and more.
